Install guide

How to install your alerts

From download to your first test alert in a few minutes. Pick the tool you stream with, follow the steps, done.

Before you start

  1. Unzip the download. You get two folders with the same alerts: one with WAV files (48 kHz, 24 bit) and one with MP3 files.
  2. Take the WAV where you can. It is the full quality. If a tool refuses it or asks for smaller files, use the MP3. It is the same sound.
  3. Match the file to the event. The file names tell you which alert goes where:
FileEvent in your tool
Follower AlertFollows
Subscriber AlertSubscriptions, resubs, gift subs
Donation AlertDonations, tips
Bit AlertBits, cheers
Raid AlertRaids

Some packs include extended and short versions. Extended alerts run about twice as long, short ones about half. Use the long one for big moments and the short one for busy chats.

Streamlabs

Streamlabs, in the browser

  1. Open your Streamlabs dashboard and go to Alert Box.
  2. Pick the event, for example Follows.
  3. Scroll to Sound, remove the current sound and click the upload icon.
  4. In the Uploads tab, drag in your file, select it and click Select.
  5. Click Save Settings at the bottom and send yourself a test alert.

Streamlabs Desktop

  1. Double-click your Alert Box source.
  2. Under Sound, click the upload icon next to the event.
  3. Upload your file, select it and click Done.

StreamElements

StreamElements

  1. In your StreamElements dashboard, go to Streaming tools, then Overlays, and open the overlay with your AlertBox.
  2. Click the cog wheel next to the event you want to change, for example follows.
  3. Click Upload sound, choose your file and confirm with Submit.
  4. Select the new sound for the alert, save the overlay and run a test alert.

Sound Alerts

Sound Alerts

  1. Open the Library in your Sound Alerts dashboard and click + Create.
  2. Select your file and trim it if you like.
  3. Add a title, then set the sound to private and click Upload.
  4. Find it under your uploads and click the plus button to add it to your alerts.

Keep it private. Public uploads land in the shared library, where other streamers could use them. Our license allows the sounds on your own channels only.

Sound Alerts recommends files below 5 MB, so the MP3 is the easier choice here.

OBS Studio

OBS Studio

OBS shows alerts but does not trigger them. The events come from your alert tool, so set the sounds up there first, using the steps above. Then:

  1. Copy the widget URL of your alert box from Streamlabs, StreamElements or Sound Alerts.
  2. In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the URL.
  3. Tick Control audio via OBS. The alerts then get their own fader in the audio mixer, so you can set their level against your voice and game.

Getting the level right

  1. Start low. Alerts that are too loud are the most common complaint in chat. Set the alert volume to about half and raise it from there.
  2. Test while you talk. Trigger a test alert while you speak and while a game is running. The alert should be clear, not louder than your voice.
  3. Listen to the VOD. What you hear on your headphones is not always what your viewers get. A short test recording tells you the truth.
